Lecturette in SSB

Lecturette tests your ability to organise thoughts and speak confidently before a group. It is not a test of fancy vocabulary; it is a test of clarity and composure.

How Lecturette Works

Candidates usually pick one topic from a card and get a short preparation time before speaking for a few minutes in front of the group.

Best Structure

Use a simple opening, two or three clear points and a conclusion. Keep examples practical and avoid speaking without direction.

Preparation Strategy

Practice current affairs, social topics, defence topics and personal-interest topics. Record yourself and improve clarity, pace and posture.

Cavalier approach: Learn the task, practice under real conditions, get feedback, and improve natural behaviour instead of memorising fixed answers.

Quick Preparation Checklist

  1. Understand the exact format and time limit of the task.
  2. Practice in writing, speaking or group setting depending on the task.
  3. Review whether your response shows responsibility, initiative and cooperation.
  4. Keep your communication simple, direct and truthful.
