National Defence Academy Exam
The NDA is one of India's most prestigious entrance exams, conducted twice a year by UPSC. It is the gateway to the Army, Navy, and Air Force for students straight out of Class 12.
What NDA Offers
A 3-year residential training programme at the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune — followed by respective service academies (IMA, INA, AFA). You graduate as a commissioned officer in the Indian Armed Forces.
Who Can Apply
Class 11 and 12 students (appearing or passed). Physics and Mathematics are mandatory for Army/Navy/Air Force. Age: 16.5 to 19.5 years. Both male and female students are eligible for respective entries.
Exam Schedule
UPSC conducts NDA twice a year — NDA I (notification Jan, exam April) and NDA II (notification May, exam Sept). Written exam is followed by SSB interview at one of the Selection Boards across India.
Career Trajectory
NDA entry leads to a lifetime career as an officer — Lieutenant to General/Admiral/Air Chief Marshal. Salary from Day 1 of training, pension, prestige, and leadership at the highest levels of national service.
