The age band 19–27 covers more than 15 distinct officer-entry routes across the three services — UPSC CDS, AFCAT, INET, TGC, JAG, NCC Special, Territorial Army and Coast Guard. If you've completed your graduation (or are in your final year), you've entered the widest entry window of your life. Across the three services, more than 15 officer-entry routes open between ages 19 and 27 — UPSC CDS, AFCAT, INET, TGC, JAG, NCC Special, ACC, Coast Guard AC and more. Each has its own eligibility, written exam pattern and entry into either Permanent or Short Service Commission.
UPSC CDS — Combined Defence Services
The flagship UPSC graduate exam. Held twice a year. Recruits officers for IMA, INA, AFA and OTA.

Three written papers (English, GK, Maths — 100 each) for IMA/INA/AFA; two papers (English + GK) for OTA-only candidates. Negative marking 1/3. SSB Interview after qualification.
AFCAT — Air Force Common Admission Test
IAF's direct graduate entry — twice a year. SSC entry to all three IAF branches.
AFCAT & EKT
INET — Indian Navy Entrance Test
Navy's SSC graduate exam. Twice a year (Feb & Aug). Online test with score normalisation across days.
INET branches: Executive (General Service), Engineering, Electrical, Education, Naval Architect, Logistics, Pilot, Observer, Air Traffic Control, Hydrography, Submarine. Branch eligibility is highly stream-specific — engineering branches need B.E./B.Tech; Education needs M.Sc/MA in specific subjects; Pilot/Observer need PCM at 12th. Pattern: 100 Qs across English, Reasoning, GK, Maths.
Technical Graduate Entries
For B.E./B.Tech holders. No written exam in most cases — shortlisting on engineering aggregate.

Non-UPSC Graduate Routes
NCC Special Entry
Graduate (50%+) with NCC SD 'C' certificate. No written exam — direct SSB. 6% vacancies reserved per cycle.
JAG (Judge Advocate General)
LLB 55%+ aggregate, eligibility for Bar registration, CLAT PG score required. Both men and women. ~10 vacancies/cycle.
Territorial Army (TA)
Part-time officer commission for working professionals aged 18–42. Continue your civilian career while serving.
Coast Guard Assistant Commandant
General Duty, Tech (Engg/Elec), CPL-SSA. Stage I CBT + Stage II PSB + Stage III FSB.
For Working Professionals & Late Entry
If you're past 25 and outside CDS/AFCAT age windows, you have two strong officer-entry routes:
Territorial Army
Continue your civilian career. Serve as a Lieutenant in the Army Reserve. Pension after 20 years of aggregate embodied service.
Army Cadet College (ACC)
If you're a serving soldier, the ACC route allows you to commission as an officer. 3 years of training at ACC Wing of IMA.
